1886-87 - USA, Canada, Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Egypt

January 15th, 1887

Palace Hotel, San Francisco

It is Saturday night 11 o'clock and I have had a busy day in packing up and getting ready for our proposed start tomorrow at 2, so that I shall soon be moving away from this vast continent to another part of the world. Have had wonderful kindness shewn to me on every hand and it will take me days to tell you of it all on my return. The saints have been comforted greatly and that is no small consolation - in this place it is a very rare occurrence to see a bro. from England. I have asked P.F.Co to let you know a few days before they write me to Singapore so that your letter may be enclosed.

The Lord preserve and bless you my dearly beloved wife - He will not disappoint you in the desires of your heart and in His abounding goodness and mercy we may each hope for the great joy of looking into one another's faces again as together of the grace of life and nothing through His mercy to hinder our prayers although so many thousands of miles apart for a little season. I shall have plenty of time for writing on going over the Pacific - you shall have a daily record of the voyage and its incidents.

Much love to dear Arundel and Harry, Harriett and Emma and all the dear children – Emma and Eliza & Mr. R and all enquiring friends also dear ones in Barnstaple, Mary Martha and others and now with much love to yourself believe me once more my dearest Angee.

Being very affectionate Husband

Mrs. Smith is proposing to write you and Mr. S. to Arundel - they intend seeing me off.
